When you think of password cracking you probably think of a hacker attempting to crack a password to help a criminal steal information or something of the sort but password cracking isn’t all bad. A lot of security professionals will use password cracking to determine security issues such as weak passwords. With the information they gain they are able to conduct audits of password requirements and create new and stronger ones!
Last month an intelligence-led security company called FireEye developed a tool to help efficiently manage password cracking tasks across multiple GPUs by providing a real-time UI that allows you to create, view, & manage tasks. This tool is called GoCrack.
GoCrack requires no external database server & supports the hashcat v3.6+ engine as well as both LDAP and database backed authentication. FireEye plans to add support for both MySQL and Postgres database engines soon.
GoCrack is currently available for download and you can download it along with its source code here.
